Sunday Thoughts 10/02/09

I am sitting here relaxing after church thinking of this class. I remember how I always looked forward to my weekends to get caught up when I was in my RN-BSN program. I used to think it would get better when I finished school but found that the weekends are my catch up time and will probably never change. I have seen the activity on the discussion boards and am excited to begin to read them all later this afternoon when I am finished with my Sunday routine. I will be on all afternoon working on several of my own projects as well as your discussion boards. I have discovered over the years that I love the discussion between professionals. I remember thinking when I was a associates degree nurse that I sometime felt looked down upon because I wasn't as well rounded as the BSN but in fact I was quite organized and was able to function better on the patient floor. After I completed my bridge program I began to realize what they had been talking about. Not only the research and theory but the ability to really think abstractly and look to the future of nursing issues. I have been excited to see and recognize that quest for knowledge and advocacy in all of you.

I will tell you that I never lost my desire for new knowledge thus my quest for the PhD. I had planned this while finishing up my Master's and wanted to begin within five years of graduation but life kind of changed that a little. However, now I am working on that dream. I personally feel we all have to have a dream whether it is a short term or long term. It is what keeps us exploring and learning. I hope to be of help and support in your quest for your dream.

Please feel free to chat with me on Yahoo messenger if you see me on (jenniferlester@verizon.net) . I have scype but haven't figured it out yet.

  1. Sometimes I feel like life is too busy, but I love furthering my education. Sometimes I have guilt with working and being in school, but I think it is good for my girls to see their mom making her own way. For me and for them. I hope they both place a high priority on their own education. I know I will!

  3. Nicki-

I, too, love furthering my education. My children watched me work my way through my ADN, BSN and MSN. My youngest was 6 months old when I began my pre-reqs and by the time I finished my MSN he was 10 1/2 and I could hear him yell when I was hooded at the graduation. It was awesome. Now they are watching me work on this PhD and I think it is giving them the motivation and drive to try to reach for their dreams. You keep it up, your girls will learn just by watching.
